Commissioned for Shaon Horef 2026, AI Painter invited festival visitors to draw simple lines on a tablet. An AI-assisted system developed those gestures into evolving images and projected them live across the façade of a Jerusalem building for one full festival night.
The brief
The public interaction had to be immediate while its result remained legible at architectural scale. A visitor could begin with a minimal mark, understand the interface without instruction, and then see that personal gesture become part of the street.
Interaction and system
The tablet interface captured each drawing and passed it into a real-time, AI-assisted image system. The resulting imagery was composed for the building and projection-mapped back onto its façade, connecting an intimate hand movement to a shared public image.
Development and authorship
The project began with an idea by Arik Futterman of the Jerusalem collective Analog Front. Erez developed that starting point into the finished installation, handling the planning, interaction design, software and AI system, projection mapping, and on-site execution in close collaboration with Arik and the collective.
Interaction and public setting
The interface kept the invitation simple: draw a line, then look up as the gesture grows across the architecture.
Later canvas study
After the public commission, the same system was adapted to a projected canvas as a smaller-scale experiment. This was a later implementation, not the primary festival artwork.
