Penguin & Seal

Two adjacent body-controlled character stations created for Journey to Antarctica at Arena Herzliya. A camera translates each visitor's movement into an immediate response from a life-sized penguin or seal.

The life-sized penguin station

Created as an invited work for Journey to Antarctica — Wonders of the Frozen World, Penguin & Seal consists of two adjacent body-controlled character stations. Visitors step in front of a life-sized animated penguin or seal, and a camera translates their movement into an immediate playful response.

Exhibition context

The work is installed at Arena Herzliya inside a temporary, approximately 2,000-square-metre family exhibition that combines wildlife displays, educational content, interactive media, and 360-degree projection. The two stations sit next to one another as a single experience for families and young visitors.

Interaction

There is no handheld controller. A camera reads the visitor's body movement and drives the character animation in real time, keeping the exchange direct: the visitor moves and the penguin or seal answers. The vertical screens keep each character life-sized and face-to-face with the player.

Role and delivery

Erez developed the creative interaction and software and carried the work through final execution for its public deployment in 2026.

The second station

The seal sits beside the penguin as the second half of the same installation, using the same immediate body-to-character interaction.
