Atzmaut

Atzmaut involves the 3D scanning, printing, and acrylic painting of old tombstones from the historic Mamilla cemetery in Jerusalem's city center.

Concept

The project bridges ancient and contemporary through technology — 3D scanning captures the eroding surfaces of centuries-old tombstones, preserving their textures and forms digitally. These scans are then 3D printed and hand-painted with acrylic, creating physical objects that exist between documentation and artistic reinterpretation.

Process

Each tombstone was scanned on-site at the Mamilla cemetery, capturing the weathered stone textures and Hebrew inscriptions. The 3D prints were then painted by hand, adding a layer of personal artistic interpretation to the historical artifacts — a conversation between the ancient craft of stone carving and the contemporary tools of digital fabrication.
